For those of you who have not gotten word, this is a joint project that JP Trees is working on with Earthworks. The idea is to plant up to 200-250 FREE trees all over JP in front yards. Why? Because their chances of survival are better in yards, than between cement and asphalt on the sidewalk. This project is part of JP Trees' mission to enhance and renew the urban canopy of Jamaica Plain.

All we need are home owners and/or tenants (with the approval of owners) to agree to be stewards for the trees and care for them in their tender years. Though the trees and all of the labor are free, donations are of course always welcome.

If this sounds like something you or someone you know would be interested in, please contact Gretchen at Earthworks (gretchen@earthworksboston.org). More information about the project can also be found at http://www.earthworksboston.org/setbacktrees/STindex.htm.

If this sounds like a great idea to you, but unfortunately you do not have a front yard, we can certainly use your help! Please contact us at jptreesinfo@gmail.com if you would like to door-knock/flyer, evaluate potential sites, or get your hands dirty and plant! No need to worry if you have never done any of these things; we can train you and teach you at least one more useful skill. This is a great way to get to know your neighbors and feel more involved in our lovely Jamaica Plain community.

Thanks for all of your continued support.
