Site evaluations are a key step to planting trees for stewards. They give information that enables the arborist at Earthworks to choose the best trees for the yard. The volunteers who do the site evaluations are very valuable, as it is nearly impossible for the arborist to visit every site in a timely manner. The summary below explains the process of site evaluations. A how-to document, a sample evaluation, and a blank form are all attached for those who have volunteered to help with the evaluations.
Where site evaluations come into play
1. Outreach to gain stewards: door-knock, flyer, PR, table
2. Those who are interested in a tree fill out information forms
3. Gretchen at Earthworks contacts potential stewards for more details
4. A list of owners/tenants and their addresses are sent to volunteers willing to sketch front yards
5. Completed evaluations go back to Gretchen, who gives them to Ben Crouch, the arborist
6. Ben chooses a few treese best suited for the area according to the conditions outlined
